A person who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children aged nine and 10.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the police again.
She said the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
